Shekinah Ministries India
Hearts for India (formerly Project Hope) was born out of the vision of Shekinah Ministries India (SMI). In 1996 Pastor Jojo Thomas and his wife Anitha, arrived in Adelaide from Kerala, India. God had given them a vision to come to Australia, a place they had never seen, to help raise the support needed to spread the love of Jesus to the people of India. Shekinah Ministries India was born!
Their vision is to bring the love of God to the villages, towns and cities of India by…
- Starting up new churches
- Setting up children’s homes
- Caring for aged widows.
Shekinah Children’s Home

From the vision of SMI, Shekinah Children’s Home was built. The home currently has 32 children, but was built to house
100 children, so the more sponsors we get , the more children the home can support.
The sponsorship program has been running since 2006, while the children were still in temporary housing. A new building was completed in mid 2007, and the children moved into the home in early 2008.
The home is in Erattupetta, Kottayam District, Kerala, India.
The town has a population of approximately 30,000 and is located in a tropical mountainous region.

About the Children
The children are from the local area. Some of them are orphans, and some have parents who are unable to care for them and have brought them to the home. There is no welfare system in Kerala, so the ill and unemployed face extreme poverty. Many of the children have experienced extreme hardships.
How Can You Help?
First and foremost we are asking you to pray. Pray that God will protect these children and supply them with their needs. Ask God to guide their carers and to give them wisdom for the decisions they have to make. Another way to help is to support these children financially. Sponsorship packs are available.
