A few facts about Christian Pastoral Support Workers (CPSW’s) in SA schools.
In a Government school, the Christian Pastoral Support Worker Program is primarily a service of pastoral care for students, their families and staff who want this support.
CPS Workers are not in the school to evangelize on behalf of a particular faith group. Their role requires them to respect both the secular character of the Government School and the variety of thoughts and beliefs within the school community. As a Christian presence in the school, the CPS Worker represents and encourages key Christian values, and celebrates the diversity of Christianity.
CPS Workers in the central and upper Riverland are jointly accountable to the Dept. of Education and Child Development ( DECD ), Schools Ministry Group ( Funding Recipient – employer ) and Riverland Youth Ministries ( RYM ), on behalf of the Berri-Barmera, Loxton and Renmark Paringa Christian Churches.
